Sophia Morreale

Sophia Morreale is the founder of Music Heals and the creator of Integrative Music Healing: The Sophia Process, a leading-edge music methodology integrating her 4 decades of being a professional musician and music therapist. The Sophia Process brilliantly combines inspired original music, meditation, imagery, and movement; therapeutically assisting people in their healing to achieve balance, harmony and well-being.

After receiving degrees in organ performance from State University of New York at Fredonia School of Music in 1976 and the Eastman School of Music in 1980, Sophia became a Minister of Music, directing choirs and performing for worship services and concerts throughout the US. She was credentialed both as a Spiritual Director from the Oasis Ministries in 1998 and as a Commissioned Minister of Music in the UCC denomination in 2006.

As her attraction to devotional music grew, she studied the mystic writings of Teresa of Avila, St. John of the Cross, Hildegard of Bingen, Francis of Asisi, Thomas Merton and Henri Nouwen, leading her to improvise music under narrated psalm texts and meditations based on the psalms. This project began the visceral connection of spirit, music and healing. She studied the philosophies of Sufism, Kabbalah and the Chakra system, Hinduism, Buddhism, Hazrat Inayat Khan and Sri Aurobindo. Their teachings became foundational for her continued creative work.

Sophia is certified in the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music Therapy, through the Atlantic Institute for Consciousness and Music (2000) and graduated as a board-certified music therapist through the State University of New York at Fredonia in 2003. In 2004, Sophia became a Mandala Assessment Resource Instrument practitioner (MARI) and began incorporating mandala drawings and movement into her music therapy practice in substance abuse, assisted living facilities and mental health clinics.
